About
Rationale:
In the September 22 of 2007, the Y4C Youth Roundtable established a Working Committee to undertake the task of organizing the National Youth Consultation Meeting on November 3-4, 2007. Many participants felt that the consultation meeting is important for the young people to shape and develop the Youth Agenda for Change particularly to response to the coming General Election.
Youth leaders and representatives from various organizations will be invited to attend the consultation meeting to share their thoughts on how the youth groups can work together, how it could work better and be more inclusive before and during the coming General Election. The usual problem is the lack of youth participation in the General Election. The youth voices and perspectives always been ignored by the political parties. There is no proper attention on youth issues although there is General Election campaign.
More important, the roles of young people in building up the democratic, freedom and justice society should be taking seriously. Due to the draconian laws and political apathy among the young people, a lot of young people tend to give up their rights to involve in the political activities.
Therefore, different youth organizations and network regardless their political ideologies, race, religious and cultural background need to engage in the consultation. The meeting should ensure the issues that been raised were truly representative of their views. The issues of importance to young people can be identify, whilst sending a clear message for action.
